Scribner next stop for Division 5 racers

SCRIBNER, Neb. - Nebraska Motorplex will host the O'Reilly Auto Parts Summer Sizzle, a round of the NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series, Aug. 10-12, 2001. The event is the fourth of six in NHRA West Central Division competition. It will feature more than 400 cars in eight racing categories, including 260-mph Federal-Mogul Dragsters and Federal-Mogul Funny Cars. Drivers are competing for cash and contingency awards of $148,495, a part of the 43-race, $6.5 million series. They will also earn points leading to national and divisional championships.

Gates at Nebraska Motorplex open at 8 a.m. Friday and 7 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Qualifying and time trials begin at 9 a.m. on Friday and continue at 8 a.m. Saturday. Federal-Mogul Dragsters and Funny Cars will make one qualifying run on Friday at 3 p.m. and two qualifying passes on Saturday at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Eliminations begin Sunday at 8 a.m. Federal-Mogul Dragster and Funny Car run first round of eliminations at 1 p.m.

Tickets for the NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series event are $10 Friday, $15 Saturday and $20 Sunday. Children 12 and under are admitted free with a paid adult. All tickets include a pit pass.

SUNDAY, Aug. 12 -- Gates open at 7 a.m. Eliminations begin at 8 a.m. Eliminations for Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car begin at 1 p.m.

BONUS PROGRAMS:

FEDERAL-MOGUL POINTS FUND -- a $561,000 point fund from Federal-Mogul, which will be shared by 2001 Federal-Mogul divisional champions and Federal-Mogul national champions. Divisional awards include $8,500 each to the Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car champions; $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The seven Federal-Mogul national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.

SEALED POWER LOW QUALIFIER BONUS -- a $167,500 overall bonus fund from Federal-Mogul's Sealed Power brand to the low qualifiers at each of the 43 Federal-Mogul events and the 24 NHRA national events: $1,000 each in Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car; $200 each in Competition and Super Stock; and $100 in Stock.

FEATURES: More than 400 drivers in the eight racing categories. Eight-car fields in Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car, featuring five-second, 250 mph side-by-side racing.
