Williams, Bradshaw visit winner's circle Federal-Mogul season finale

DENVER - In the final results from Bandimere Speedway, Federal-Mogul Funny Car driver Kirk Williams, who was the top qualifier in the class, took the win over veteran driver Vern Moats. In Federal-Mogul Dragster, Alan Bradshaw was the winner over Mike Strasburg. It was the first trip to the winner's circle for both drivers.

After going to five consecutive final rounds, Williams finally came out on top. The Glenwood, Iowa, resident ran the quarter-mile in 6.067 seconds at 237.30 mph. Moats, from Des Moines, Iowa, gave Williams a run for his money at 6.147 seconds at 235.97 mph.

Bradshaw of Odessa, Texas, made a 5.704-second, 251.86-mph pass over Strasburg's tire-smoking effort of 10.322 seconds at 83.07 mph. Winners in other categories are Rod Oman of Lakewood, Colo., in Comp; Randall Klein of Lincoln, Neb., in Super Stock; Jeff Hefler of Mansfield, Texas, in Stock; Mitch Mustard of Arvada, Colo., in Super Comp; Terry Edwards of Cameron, Mo., in Super Gas; Todd Emberley of Parker, Colo., in Super Street; and Buddy Robinson of Colorado Springs, Colo., in Super Bike. Oman took out No. 1 qualifier Clint Sallee in the final while Klein carried his top qualifying effort through to the winner's circle.

This was the last of six NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series events in the West Central Division's 2001 season.

Low qualifiers maintain top positions, fields set

DENVER - In the final rounds of qualifying at Bandimere Speedway, Federal-Mogul Dragster driver David Wells and Federal-Mogul Funny Car driver Kirk Williams maintained their No. 1 positions to take the low qualifier honors.

Wells of Lemars, Iowa, made the quarter-mile run in 5.670 seconds at 252.28 mph to put him in the pole position. Wells has also put himself in a better position to reclaim the division championship that he lost to Denver's Bruce Bowler last year. At the end of qualifying, Bowler found himself on the outside in at the eight-car field. In Federal-Mogul Funny Car, Glenwood, Mont., resident Williams made a 6.015-second 236.75-mph pass to put him at the top of his category.

In the other classes, all of yesterday's low qualifiers kept their No. 1 positions as well. Clint Sallee of Glendive, Mont. in Comp Eliminator, Randall Klein of Lincoln, Neb., in Super Stock and Marty Woffard of Gore, Okla., in Stock each kept their competitors at bay. DENVER - In the first rounds of qualifying at Bandimere Speedway, David Wells in Federal-Mogul Dragster and Kirk Williams in Federal-Mogul Funny Car are leading the fields.

Dragster pilot Wells, of LeMars, Iowa, made a 6.064-second, 237.92-mph run to put him ahead of his competitors. And Glenwood, Iowa, resident Williams took the top spot with a 6.064-second, 237.92-mph pass.

Top qualifiers in other classes are Clint Sallee, Glendive, Mont., in Comp; Randall Klein, Lincoln, Neb., in Super Stock; and Marty Woffard, Gore, Okla., in Stock.
