The reversal of the final-round decision that made Steve Johnson the official winner over Matt Smith marked an unusual end to a crazy weekend in Pro Stock Motorcycle. Points leaders Andrew Hines and GT Tonglet were both gone in round one. Another early casualty was No. 4 qualifier Antron Brown. Johnson, the eighth-quickest qualifier, made it to the final after beating Angelle Sampey for just the sixth time in 24 meetings. (page 20)

First Person: Staging Light with Phil Burgess "I've seen so many miraculous and crazy things happen at the U.S. Nationals the last three decades to make me believe in not only the implausible but the impractical and the impossible - but I'll admit there were several times during this event (and, obviously, after the event) when my jaw was collecting grass stains."
