Bristol Dragway dedicates Kenny Bernstein Grandstand

04/26/2002

Local Budweiser distributor Stuart Wood, left, and Bristol Jeff Byrd flank Kenny and Sheryl Bernstein at a special dinner honoring the "King of Speed."

The name Kenny Bernstein forever will remain part of drag racing history long after the six-time NHRA champion completes his final competitive season in 2002. Likewise, the Bernstein name forever will be part of Thunder Valley as Bristol Dragway officials dedicated the Kenny Bernstein Grandstand Thursday evening during a special dinner honoring the "King of Speed."

Bernstein becomes the first racer with a grandstand named in his honor at Thunder Valley.

"At the Speedway, fans readily identify the grandstands by the legendary drivers for which they are named. Now we bring that same approach to Bristol Dragway with the dedication of the Kenny Bernstein Grandstand," said Jeff Byrd, BMS general manager.

Located on the pit side of the famed quarter-mile and adjacent to Bristol Dragway's Thunder Valley Club, an exclusive fan hospitality and race viewing area with special amenities, the Kenny Bernstein Grandstand seats 500 spectators.

"The impact made by Kenny Bernstein on the sport of drag racing is immeasurable," said Byrd. "Kenny is a true ambassador and typifies the positive characteristics for which all aspiring drivers can model their careers. Naming a grandstand in his honor is the least we can do in recognition of all of Kenny's accomplishments and his contributions to the sport of NHRA Drag Racing."
